Grateful for My Mistakes

by CL Hendricks
(Weatherford, TX)

At 52, almost 53, I've discovered that I'm grateful for my mistakes. You know all those stupid, know-better, wish-I'd-listened, almost-a-tradegy, regretful mistakes we make in our younger (and not-so-younger) days.

I can look back and realize that my life certainly didn't go in the way I envisioned it back in my innocent and naive youth. But instead of regretting the direction my life has taken, I realize that I'm grateful for my mistakes. I'm also grateful for the mistakes I didn't make.

I'm grateful for those times when I prayed desperately for a certain result, and the answer I received was "No...not even gonna happen!"

You see I've realized that if I hadn't gone through some of those experiences and had those disappointments, that I would be a very different person today. Perhaps I would be less aware of what's going on in the world, perhaps I would be more judgmental of other's mistakes and less understanding of human weakness.

Perhaps I would not be the strong person I am. Perhaps I would be less honest with myself and others.

So, I'm grateful for my mistakes...maybe they weren't mistakes. Perhaps they were all part of a plan to get me to this point where I can be a blessing to others.

However, every one of those models involves your brain.

How is Your Attention? Try Your Hand at the Stroop Test.

To test your attention using the stroop test, read the color the word is printed in rather than the text of the word. So the text could be the word red, but if the word red is printed in blue, then the correct response if blue.

Replacement Parts for Your Brain?

Neurogenesis is the term used to describe the recently discovered capacity of the human brain to grow new neurons.

That is right, our brain is not physically fixed, it is constantly changing, losing some neurons, growing some neurons, making or deleting connections, and we can encourage that growth by attending to the Pillars Of Brain Fitness.

Those pillars are;

Physical Exercise

Nutrition

Sleep

Stress Management
