I have used Heartmath training for couples sent to me for domestic violence education. I teach each of them the process individually, then bring them together to work on the heart beat of the relationship.
The heart beat of the relationship is separate from their individual heart beats and one person impacts that relationship coherence within 1/18th second in either a coherent or incoherent direction. The couple quickly learns that their 'relationship heartbeat' needs to be attended to frequently or it gets really incoherent.

If you are curious about recent research in the use of computerized brain fitness programs, I have used four of them, and can coach you in the concept of brain fitness.
For example, the Mind Sparke Brain Fitness Pro is a tool which has documented proof, using IQ tests, of improved IQ scores.
While improved IQ is not the only thing necessary for fame and fortune in our Western culture, it sure does help. The initial Mind Sparke practice is about 1/2 hour per day, for 19 days.
The creator, Martin Walter, is about to come out with version 2, so the research and improvements continue. Using Mind Sparke involves an audio cue and a visual cue and requires that you remember the sequence for a set number of trials, and is a bit disconcerting at first, but then when you catch on, and get it, and see your score go up, it is quite an exciting experience

Well, withing the last 10-12 years, there have been some very interesting discoveries about the human brain.
We grow new brain cells every day, so that old neuroscientific dogma about your brain being set at about age five and then just deteriorating until the inevitable happens is false.
You can enhance the growth of new neurons, called neurogenesis and the formation of new connections between neurons, called neuroplasticity every day if you choose to take care of the pillars of brain fitness, explained so well in this book, Brainfit for Life by Simon Evans, Ph.D. and Paul Burghardt,Ph.D. who are neuroscientists at the University of Michigan.
The pillars that they say we need to attend to are physical exercise, nutrition including lots of omega 3 fatty acid, stress management (see Heartmath), sleep, and novel learning experiences, which does include the use of computerized brain fitness programs, like Mind Sparke, the Posit Science Brain Fitness Program, and Lumosity.
The Posit Science tools have been researched in two large studies of Senior Citizens, older than Boomers), the IMPACT and the ACTIVE studies, which are very interesting reading.
