Barbara Adler, caregiver and bilingual aide

by Barbara Adler
(California)

Barbara, somehow I did not see your post, and I wish to apologize...you can find links to the Heartmath tool on the Heartmath Solution page of my site. Or simply explore at Heartmath.com, which is the home site for the tool. Please also look at EEG biofeedback and perhaps the Posit Science materials for stroke recovery. Mike

Hi Mike,
I just read a great article in a newsletter about the heart rate variability biofeedback tool which is fascinating to me in its application for my husband who experienced 2 strokes (one major) in 2008. He had the strokes after having open heart surgery to repair a mitral valve. The biggest difficulties, other than loss of function on his left side, are his cognitive skills, anger management, easily frustrated, and no motivation to do much of anything. He was a highly motivated, creative guy before who loved to work with wood and write creatively.

Anyway, how would we get some of this biofeedback for both of us? I have experienced a lot of pent-up anger with my situation. Instead of being sad, I'm angry but don't show it except with him and under my breath a lot. I love my job and many friends so have a lot of positives in my life. I try and meditate at least 2 times a week in my yoga class and with a meditation group. It's not enough the curb my angry feelings. My father was very ill with MS and died a slow, debilitating death so I think that's where some of the anger response also comes from.

Sorry this is so long. Thanks for any more info you can give. I'm leaving for Costa Rica with some colleagues tomorrow. First big trip in a long time.

Sincerely,
Barbara Adler

Track Your Calorie Loss on Your Smart Phone?

Will My Phone Tell Google? Or My Mom?

This Body Media tool looks very exciting to me. I really could use immediate feedback about my food choices, and even an old "how-does-this-thing-work?" cell phone noobie like myself could handle this. I can record my food use and get real time feedback about calorie burn vs calorie intake? Very efficient, and just the motivation I need.
